Following 6 years at Emilio Pucci, Peter Dundas has just been unveiled as the new creative director of Roberto Cavalli.

The Norwegian designer will take charge of both womenswear and menswear ready-to-wear collections and accessories, as well all licenses for the Italian label.

This announcement puts to rest speculations on the creative future of the company after the pending sale of a majority stake by the founding designer of his eponymous label.

A graduate of Parsons the New School for Design, Dundas worked in Paris for Jean Paul Gaultier as well as Christian Lacroix, before ending up at Roberto Cavalli from 2002 to 2005. The appointment is a “homecoming”, as he takes the helm to continue working on the label’s signature sexy style.

His tenure at Emilio Pucci as artistic director (replacing the outgoing Matthew Williamson) saw both critical and commercial success, garnering him a loyal following which included Poppy Delevingne, Rosie Huntington-Whiteley, Beyoncé Knowles, Kate Bosworth, Miranda Kerr and Jennifer Lawrence.

In a statement, Cavalli, who with his wife started the fashion brand in the 1970s, said the choice of Dundas “was made with the desire to evolve a style that combines glamour, tradition and innovation.”

Dundas will debut his first collection for Roberto Cavalli at Milan Fashion Week in September.
