Stylefluid Trendz presents the top 35 news from the world of fashion in the year 2015.

FIT, New York’s Museum exhibited the works of 3 Indian designers – Wendell Rodricks, Rahul Mishra and Manish Arora 
For its prestigious Global Fashion Capitals exhibition (June 2 – November 14), the Fashion Institute of Technology, New York’s Museum exhibited the works of three Indian fashion designers – Wendell Rodricks’ 30 meter net panel gown, constructed on a silver lycra swimsuit from his Spring 2015 collection, Rahul Mishra’s gray silk tunic and pants from his Spring 2016 Ferryman’s Tale collection and Manish Arora’s Spring 2016 design that featured colourful Bollywood inspired prints.
Global Fashion Capitals explored the history of the established fashion capitals—Paris, New York, Milan, and London—and the emergence of 16 new fashion cities. The exhibition was organized by Ariele Elia, assistant curator of costume and textiles, and Elizabeth Way, curatorial assistant, The Museum at FIT.

25 of India’s finest designers collaborated for the grand finale of Amazon India Fashion Week 2015
In first of its kind, 25 of India’s finest fashion designers came together for the grand finale of Amazon India Fashion Week 2015. The grand finale was a celebration of the 25th edition of the FDCI Fashion Week, and also curated to the theme of ‘Crafts of India’, with an aim to bring to limelight the breadth-taking richness and heritage of Indian craft. The runway of AIFW burst into colours of reds, pinks, oranges and yellows, where each designer showcased their individual interpretations of the theme.

Shanay Jhaveri is appointed by New York’s Metropolitan Museum of Art
Curator Shanay Jhaveri is appointed by New York’s Metropolitan Museum of Art as the assistant curator of South Asian Art, under the museum’s Department of Modern and Contemporary Art. He will begin his role in 2016.

Ending his almost four year exile, the disgraced and one of the most admired designers of our time, John Galliano presented his Artisanal Couture Collection for Maison Martin Margiela in London in January this year. Alessandro Michele was appointed as the new creative director of Gucci
In January Kering owned luxury brand Gucci announced the appointment of accessories designer, Alessandro Michele as the new creative director. He filled in Frida Giannini’s shoes, the former creative director, who left the Florentine brand, a month earlier than expected. Because of Frida’s sudden exit, the feasibility of the Men’s Autumn/Winter 2015 show was almost uncertain. However, hats off to Michele and his team’s effort, the brand was able to pull off the show within a very little time of just five days.

Schiaparelli appoints Bertand Guyon as the new design director
The house of Schiaparelli, the Parisian Couture label appointed Bertand Guyon as the new design director, replacing Marco Zanini. Bertand is responsible for both – haute couture and ready to wear collection. A graduate from renowned École de la Chambre Syndicale de la Couture Parisienne, Guyon has worked as a designer for Valentino, Givenchy and Christian Lacroix.

Roberto Cavalli, appoints Peter Dundas as its creative director
The Italian fashion house Roberto Cavalli, appoints Peter Dundas as its creative director in March 2015. Dundas will be handling the RTW Women’s, Men’s and Accessories Collections, as well as the artistic direction of the Just Cavalli, Roberto Cavalli Class, Junior , and home licenses.

Donna Karan stepped down from her eponymous label
One of the most well recognized faces of American fashion industry, Donna Karan stepped down as a lead designer of her eponymous label to dedicate more to her Urban Zen line, which revolves on wellness and artisanal goods, and its foundation. However she will remain as an adviser to DKI.

Alexander Wang leaves Balenciaga
Ending a very short tenure, Mr. Wang exited from Balenciaga. It was rumoured that Kering, the parent company of Balenciaga have taken a decision not to renew Wang’s contract. Wang’s tenure with the brand is less than three years; he joined the brand in December 2012.  Before him, Nicholas Ghesquire was working as the creative director for 15 years, who moved out in the year 2012 to join Louis Vuitton.

Georgian fashion designer Demna Gvasalia replaced Alexander Wang at Balenciaga. He has previously worked at Maison Margiela and Louis Vuitton.

Ralph Lauren steps down
Ralph Lauren announced that he would be stepping down as chief executive from his fashion empire. Effective November 2015, Stefan Larson, former chief executive of Gap Inc., will take over the position. The veteran designer will remain with the compant as chief creative officer and executive chairman

Raf Simons leaves Dior
In a surprising move, Raf Simons left Dior, ending a three and half year old extremely successful association with the iconic French fashion house.
It seems Raf took the decision for personal reasons. The designer intends to explore other interests in his life, including launching his own brand. Mr. Simon is credited for bringing in a modern interpretation to the traditional aesthetics of the historic French atelier – which is also considered to be a new era for Christian Dior in itself. The Spring Summer 2016 collection presented in a courtyard of the Louvre on October 2nd was his last show for the brand.

In June, Bruce Jenner, the Olympic gold medallist who was lauded as one of the greatest sportsman on earth unveiled himself as a woman on the cover of the Vanity Fair. Shot by legendry photographer Annie Lebovitz, Bruce is renamed as Caitlyn on the cover of the magazine.
From President Obama to Lady Gaga; everyone tweeted in favour of Caitlyn,  lauding her courageous move. “It takes courage to share your story,” Obama tweeted. Lady Gaga tweeted, “Caitlyn Jenner, thanku for being a part of all of our lives & using your platform to change people’s minds. The beauty on the inside is now also on the outside. God bless you and the whole family for sharing it with us”.

“China: Through the Looking Glass”: MET Museum
On May 7, the Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York City, in association with the Department of Asian Art, inaugurated this year’s one of the most anticipated Costume Institute exhibit titled, “China: Through the Looking Glass”, an examination of how China has fuelled the fashionable imagination for centuries, resulting in highly creative distortions of cultural realities and mythologies. High fashion juxtaposed with Chinese costumes, paintings, porcelains, and other art, as well as films, to reveal enchanting reflections of Chinese imagery.

Yves Saint Laurent is returning to Couture business
In July, the fashion house ,Yves Saint Laurent revealed that it is returning to Couture business for the first time since 2002. The announcement comes with the opening of the brand’s newly renovated Couture house. The last Couture collection by the Parisian house was presented at Paris’ Pompidou Centre. The Haute Couture division of the label was shut after Monsieur Laurent’s retirement.

Balmain X H&M aka #HMBALMAINATION was dubbed as the fashion collaboration of the year. Designed by Olivier Rousteing’s of Balmain, the collection created lot of mass hysteria and was completely sold out within minutes of its launch. The campaign featured the likes of Kendall Jenner, Gigi Hadid and Jourdan Dunn.

Style.com to become Condé Nast’s E-Commerce Business
In April, in a message to its readers worldwide, style.com revealed that by fall 2015 its website will be converted into Condé Nast’s global e-commerce business venture, replacing the site’s daily fashion show coverage, industry news, and more.
The editorial content including the fashion and runway coverage will be moved to a new fashion show channel, Voguerunway.com, managed by Vogue USA. The e-commerce platform will be headquartered in London’s Camden and will sell luxury merchandise, including beauty, gadgets, gifts and arts to consumers, including readers of its magazine and websites such as Vogue, GQ, Vanity Fair, Glamour and Wired.

During Paris Menswear Fashion Week, Fall Winter 2015, designer Rick Owens shocked and amused lot of people, by sending three of his models in deconstructed tunics, featuring strategic peephole opening revealing the model’s genital. Rick Owens’ Paris Fashion Week Show Features Models Wearing Models
After sending male genital baring outfits down the runway earlier, for his Spring Summer 2016 show, Mr. Owens sent models down the catwalk wearing other models. The models were harnessed to each other as they walked the runway while dressed in Rick’s collection during Paris Fashion Week. The designer intended to send across a message of uplifting women (quite literally) and encouraging them to support each other. The show created lot of buzz in the social media, including jokes and criticism.

Givenchy’s Spring 2016 show in New York went democratic
On September 11, on a Hudson River pier with the World Trade Centre’s Freedom Tower view, Givenchy showcased its Spring 2016 collection for the first time during New York Fashion Week. Tisci presented the collection to celebrate the launch of brand’s Madison Avenue flagship store and also to pay homage to the losses of September 11 attacks.
And, what makes it all the more exciting is that the show was opened to the common public too. According to WWD, the Parisian offered 820 free tickets of the 1,200 seat fashion show to the fans and fashion students on a first-come, first-served basis. A block of 280 tickets was set aside for students and faculty from FIT, Parsons, Pratt Institute and the High School for Fashion Industries.

Lily Aldridge wore the $2 million Victoria’s Secret Fantasy Bra
One of the main highlights of the Victoria’s Secret Fashion the show is its Fantasy Bra. It’s a great honour and a dream come true for any model to be chosen to wear the dreamy Fantasy Bra. This year, that fortunate model is Lily Aldridge, who has been associated with the brand since 2010.
Titled the Firework Fantasy, the Bra was designed by jewellery designer Mouawad, and it took 685 hours to make this glamorous piece of lingerie. Priced at $2 million, the bra was encrusted with 6,500 precious gems, including diamonds, blue topaz, pink quartz and yellow sapphires set in 18-karat gold.
